New Windows: They Saved My Bank Account

I have to admit that I am very frugal, but I have to be with my large family. When heating and air-conditioning bills were just becoming too much to bear, I finally caved in and bought new windows that I was told were more energy-efficient. They weren't as expensive as I thought they would be, which was great news. I had them installed just before winter began, and I received the lowest heating bill for the month of November that I had received in years! I was so happy that I had those windows installed, especially after being so hesitant to spend the cash on them. I created this blog to help other frugal people like me realize that sometimes spending money on home improvements really does pay off in the long run! I am now looking into new home insulation to save even more cash!

5 Things To Consider When Furnishing A Small Dining Room

by Michelle Davidson

As a homeowner, decorating your space is important to ensure that the space is appealing, functional, and comfortable to live in. It can be difficult to decide how to decorate some rooms, however, especially when they are small. For example, a small dining room can be difficult to decorate since you are more limited on table options, as well as other design aspects to ensure that the space flows instead of feeling cramped. Here's what you should know about decorating your small dining room:

  1. Start With a Limited Color Palette: If you overwhelm yourself with too many colors for your dining room, not only are you going to have a difficult time getting all the colors to fit into the small space, but you are going to create a space that feels cramped and cluttered. It is much easier to create a well decorated small dining room if you have less colors to work with and also colors that are neutral since it will make the space feel light and airy. This helps to make the space feel much larger.
  2. Add Some Mirrors: When you begin to search for the furniture, you want to be sure that you keep your eye out for mirrors, as well. Mirrors help to open up the space and reflect light to make the small space lighter.
  3. Keep Curtains Simple: If you have windows in the dining room, then be sure that you keep the curtains simple. You don't with curtains with a design or curtains with too bold of a color. This can be distracting and take away from the appeal of the small space.
  4. The Table Shape: There are two types of table shapes that work best in small dining rooms, which are rectangular and round. The type of space that you have will determine which table shape is best for you. For example, if you have a square dining room, a round dining room table is best. If you have a narrow and long dining room, then a rectangular table shape is best. This is the best way to ensure that people can easily maneuver in the space.
  5. Armless Chairs: Armless chairs are again going to add more space to the room. With arms, you have to be sure that the chairs are more spread apart. Plus, it can be difficult for people to get in and out of the chairs if there isn't much room. With armless chairs, you will be able to add more chairs to the dining room and keep the space functional.

By using these decorating tips for your small dining room, furniture and all, you can be sure that you are going to have the best outcome and love the way your dining room is designed for many years to come
