New Windows: They Saved My Bank Account

I have to admit that I am very frugal, but I have to be with my large family. When heating and air-conditioning bills were just becoming too much to bear, I finally caved in and bought new windows that I was told were more energy-efficient. They weren't as expensive as I thought they would be, which was great news. I had them installed just before winter began, and I received the lowest heating bill for the month of November that I had received in years! I was so happy that I had those windows installed, especially after being so hesitant to spend the cash on them. I created this blog to help other frugal people like me realize that sometimes spending money on home improvements really does pay off in the long run! I am now looking into new home insulation to save even more cash!

How To Choose Patio Furniture If You Own An Animal

by Michelle Davidson

Shopping patio furniture isn't as easy as most people think because it involves choosing the items that are in perfect harmony with the theme of your home. Yet, finding the right type of patio furniture is even more challenging when household pets are in the picture. Although dogs and cats are known to bring happiness to their owner, they can also be a source of frustration because of their ability to cause irreversible damage to furniture. If you're a pet owner and looking for patio furniture, here's what you should take into account when making your selection.

Can the furniture item be cleaned easily?

Cleanliness is arguably the most crucial factor to take into consideration before buying a furniture item. This is especially true when pets are present since they'll sooner or later leave their marks on it after playing outside in the mud with your kids. Assuming you've decided that the patio won't be covered, the furniture item will be exposed to the natural elements, which means that it'll quickly accumulate dirt. Being able to use wipes and make it look shiny will be a definite advantage over the other patio furniture items that require more intensive cleaning processes.

Can the furniture item handle scratch and tear from your pet?

To determine whether a furniture item can handle your pet's claws, you need to ask about the material from which it was built. For instance, if you're a leather fan and choose to purchase a leather furniture item for your patio, then you're guaranteed that it will last for at least a couple of years. Going for an item that was made in a soft material would be highly inappropriate because of its limited resistance to damages.  Plus, the last thing you want is minimize the power of your animal's claws, regardless of their size.

Is the patio furniture item sold with a cover?

When it comes to furniture items, covers are always viewed as necessary accessories. This is because they significantly reduce the chances that wear and tear might appear on items. If you're really concerned about the impact of using the cover on your patio's aesthetic design, then remove it when you have guests over your home, but make sure you put it back on when everybody has left. Failure to do so will put your item at the mercy of your pet.

Having patio furniture items and pets at home is definitely possible if you're vigilant enough. Find out more by talking to a company like Think Outside... The Outdoor Great Room Store.
